‘Death of an Idea’ consists of over 100 collages made by the artist initially as a combination of distraction and warm up exercise. Using a standard postcard sized background, each work is made with a combination of found material, recycled images from the artist’s own archive and a line of text cut out from the seminal, but now dated, art historic text ‘Civilization’ by Kenneth Clark.
The result is surreal and unnerving, but as always with Milne, delightfully, profoundly ridiculously funny.
'I hope viewing audiences of ‘Death of an Idea’ will agree that none of it makes any clear, rational sense. There are recurring motifs/themes that run through the work but it is offered up as a joyfully chaotic construction in which chance and some happy accidents played a role. I hope the images are seen as visually compelling and maybe a little funny or ridiculous but please do not look for any logical overriding meaning because it is not there and trust me, it’s better that way.’
These are unique works of photo collage and will not be reproduced in print form. Please note there is the opportunity to preview on Friday March 31st during our hours of 3-7.
Due to the number of works in 'The Death of an Idea' we are unable to send a comprehensive selection of images for those unable to attend the gallery . However the works being eminently sendable, on request by email the artist and gallery will be happy to make a selection for your approval following the opening. An informed Lucky Dip
