There’s a prominent hanging sculpture stitched from a kaleidoscope of hair pieces. In the front window is a vibrant installation by friend and artist Beci Orpin. Dotted around are a selection of custom-made Japanese designer bears.

Every piece of art tells the story of Madison Finn's love for the technicolor world of self-expression.

"In a couple of months' time, I’m probably going to get something new," Madison laughs, hinting at the ever-evolving aesthetic of her salon. “But there will always be some sort of colourful art around.”

From its early days in Fitzroy with just one chair and a massive mirror, Madison's World was always destined for something bigger.

In 2023, Madison moved her home and business to North Melbourne with the encouragement of her friend (and fellow Queensberry Street business owner) Karla Laidlaw.

Her loyal clients from Fitzroy followed, and new faces from North Melbourne quickly became part of her community. "Everyone has come over, and I've met heaps of locals, which is really fun," Madison shares with a smile.

As a hair salon, what sets Madison's World apart is Madison’s approach to hair styling.

"It doesn't have to be crazy to have a little bit of colour in your hair. It's about creating something beautiful, fun, yet respectful of each client's individuality.”
