Lynette Smith, the founder of gramma consulting, has carved a fascinating professional path - one fuelled by curiosity and a deep commitment to tackling the complex challenges of the climate emergency.
For over a decade, Lynette has applied her unique risk analysis and strategic approach to help government agencies, mid-sized corporations and not-for-profit organisations to assess their climate risks.
She prides herself in producing work that goes far beyond ticking compliance boxes. She creates realistic future scenarios—vivid snapshots of what 2030, 2040, or 2050 might look like - and helps to shape climate action plans.
“I’m not telling science fiction stories. I’m creating evidence-based representations of the future, such as how climate hazards will affect your business and how the shift to a low-emissions economy might reshape your industry,” she says. “With that information, I empower my clients to chart a course for the future as well as meet their legal and financial obligations in a positive way. Together, we build a practical, actionable plan.”
Lynette’s eclectic background in linguistics, philosophy, art, insurance and science communication means that she brings a distinctive perspective to every project.
“I push against the grain,” she says. “The models of communication most people use are not suitable for the complexities we face. I’ve developed something different, an analytical approach and problem-solving framework that’s fit for purpose.”
Lynette credits her creative instincts with giving her the edge to think laterally and solve even the trickiest problems. “I like finding good answers to problems rather than quick ones!” she smiles.
One of her recent standout achievements was to bring together an organisation’s teams to produce accessible technical guides for managing climate risks. It was no small feat—it required technical know-how, collaboration, and a knack for making complex ideas clear and actionable.
“I love having situations where we all leave a meeting thinking differently than before. That’s when I know we’ve made progress.”
“There’s a lot we don’t know about the future,” Lynette reflects, “but there’s also so much we do know. My job is to bridge that gap, to help people see clearly and act boldly. I truly love what I do and I measure success by the impact I create through my work.”
