“As specialists in both residential and public architecture, we continue to add value and improve people’s living and their use of space across Melbourne and regional Victoria.”
Director Ben Millar explains that the firm has and is working on projects for local councils, private clients, schools, and government bodies such as the Department of Families Fairness and Housing, in Melbourne as well as regional areas such as Gippsland, Lorne, Ballarat, the Grampians and Kerang.
GHP has designed and worked on a broad array of buildings ranging from sports pavilions, swimming pools, libraries, community centres, public toilets, public housing, schools, kinders, child care centres, and even a dog obedience centre.
Some of their notable works include the Sir Gorton Library, Kerang, Bluebird Way Child and Community Centre at Roxburgh Park, TH King Pavilion, Glen Iris, the Melton Youth Centre, Lennox Head Cultural Centre, and Orange Aquatic Centre.
The firm also has a wealth of experience in breathing new life into inner city and suburban Melbourne residences, including buildings with heritage overlays and challenging space constraints, alterations and additions to existing houses and new homes.
The business in various forms has been in existence since the 1940s, working in construction, farm machinery, and buildings before branching out into industrial warehouses and factories. Former directors Neville Page, Kel Greenway and Peter Hirst evolved the business into an architecture firm in the 1980s.
The practice has a long history of being based in North Melbourne. Its current location in Leveson Street is in the grandiose former showroom of a “Maples” furniture store.
“GHP continues to focus on excellent, personalised customer service, that aims to simplify all stages of the building process for the client.” says Ben. “We service clients with concept design, detail design, town planning, organising secondary consultants and any permits, and assistance through the construction process to help the client work with the builder for a positive outcome for everyone.”
