Tahlia Palmer: Occupation Studies

  • Victorian Archives Centre 99 Shiel Street North Melbourne, VIC, 3051 Australia (map)

Tahlia Palmer is an artist of Murri and European descent, living in Narrm / Melbourne, who explores history, identity and perception. She works to interrogate the impact of colonisation on people and Country, and to unpack and heal inter-generational trauma in her own family.

For the past four months she has been undertaking a residency at the State Archives, researching historical land and water management records. The result is Occupation Studies, an exhibition of audio-visual works taking over the third floor of the Victorian Archives Centre.

Utilising archival footage, field recordings and AI-generated imagery, Palmer's hypnotic video pieces invite visitors to reflect on their own relationship with history and challenge them to take steps towards change.
