KISS OF DEATH PRINTS
The drawings for the Kiss of Death prints and book started in the first week of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and are by Kyiv Artist Ave Libertatemaveamor and George Gittoes. Both have been collaborating in doing two drawings every day until the war ends. Their collaboration has been documented in the film UKRAINE GUERNICA which is screening as part of MIFF. These prints are a unique visual journey which continues through Putin's heart of darkness..
Ave has given birth to a little girl, Penelope, a war child, while bombs and missiles have been targeting the buildings around her apartment. To show that the artistic spirit can not be destroyed they have made studios in the devastated House of Culture in Irpin and painted a large KISS OF DEATH mural on the outside wall. Their activities along with the performances of fellow Australian artist, Hellen Rose, have brought hope to the surrounding community . When audiences come to view the work in Irpin they make instant comparisons to Picasso's Guernica.
